ST: Deep Space Nine is my second favorite Trek series, after Voyager. I think the concept of a space station near Bajor, and the wormhole to the Gamma Quadrant was a novel idea for a series. I loved the DS9 crew headed by Captain Benjamin Sisko, and Avery Brooks rocked in this role. Quark was the hilarious comic relief, and reminded me a lot of Neelix from Voyager. I also loved Odo's no-nonsense attitude and he was very much like the stoic Tuvok. Julian Bashir is my favorite character from this series, and I admit that I'm a huge JB fangirl. The man is just deliciously hot. My second favorite character is Jadzia Dax, but I have to admit that Ezri grew on me when she was introduced in the last season. I'm also a hopeless shipper when it comes to Julian/Jadzia, even though they were never canon. I love the Odo/Kira ship as well. The secondary, recurring characters like Garak, Rom, Nog, Leeta and Vic Fontaine were awesome as well, and added diversity to an already colorful and exceptional cast. I've not seen the episodes in like for ever, so I'm definitely itching to purchase the DVDs now. Anyhow, any other DS9 fans here? If so, get posting, and let's get this discussion rolling! ~Shaliza

*weeps* I miss this show so much. It's been 16 years since its last episode aired and I still think it's one of the best sci-fi shows ever. It aged well, too. I'm a JB fangirl as well but I also love the deliciously evil Weyoun!

Yay for another Julian Bashir fan! Yeah, I liked Weyoun too, as annoying as he was. Jeffrey Combs played the character so well. I miss the series too, very much. We haven't had a new trek series in like forever, so that makes it worse. Anyhow, here's one of my favorite scenes from the episode Defiant (3x9). I love how Julian deals with an over-worked Kira. Feel free to post your own favorite videos, pictures and the like too. ~Shaliza

I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with DS9.
It had some great writing, strong characters, humour... everything that should make a good series. I really liked some of the storylines and didn't like others at all, I didn't feel they all belonged in Star Trek and think I would have appreciated them more in an independent show.
I'm actually re-watching the 5th and 6th series at the moment (I had a sudden urge to get the DVD's) and I'm alternating between, this is really good and this is depressing.
I'm liking the Worf/Dax relationship better this time round but I too always wanted Jadzia and Julian to get together.
I'm a big fan of the Ferengi, Odo and Garak.

Nice to see you chiming in, Louise! I know what you mean about liking the Ferengi, Odo and Garak. I mean how can you not giggle insanely at the antics of Quark and crew? One of my favorite episodes was Little Green Men, where Quark, Rom and Nog are discovered by humans in a first contact situation. It was beyond hilarious, and so well executed! As for Odo, I just love him, and Rene Auberjonois played the character so well. I also love the Odo/Kira relationship and adore how they finally kissed in the middle of the Promenade for all to see. I give major props to Vic Fontaine's bout of excellent matchmaking too. As for Garak, since I'm not a fan of slash pairings, I never see him and Bashir in a romantic light, but I do appreciate their friendship. I think Garak was a very complex character, with great lines, and that acerbic wit that you just knew would undoubtably rear its head when he was in a scene. Kudos to Andrew Robinson for an excellent job of bringing this memorable character to life. I'm liking the Worf/Dax relationship better this time round but I too always wanted Jadzia and Julian to get together. Yeah... when I went back and re-watched some of the episodes, I realized I can stomach J/W but I still yearned for J/J with all my heart. I find this initial meeting of Worf, Kira and Jadzia to be hilarious and very entertaining, as seen in this clip from Way of the Warrior (4x1): LOL! I can't help giggling at Kira's horrified expression and Julian and Miles' snickering. And you can tell that Jadzia was flirting with Worf from the get-go. *sigh* It's interesting because she told Julian he came on too strong when he was flirting with her, but then she comes on equally strong or perhaps more so, when pursuing Worf. I think this is one of the major reasons that I find it hard to ship Worf/Jadzia. Right off the bat, he recognized the Kurzon in her, and she was more like her previous host, rather than herself, when she was with him. At least Julian was focusing on what made Jadzia special, but he wasn't basing his interest on her previous hosts' accomplishments. This is the main reason that the J/J ship will always be my OTP, and I love that fan fiction helps to fuel this obsession years after the show went off the air. ~Shaliza

I completely agree.
Have you read Andrew Robinson's novel A Stitch in Time? It's Garak's life history and well worth a read.
I don't read slash... I just don't see a gay romance between two straight characters in the same light as a cannon same sex pairing. So no, I wouldn't read Garak/Bashir.
Just when you think Bashir is over Jadzia, there's a scene where Quark uses it against him to win at Tongo and it's really quite heartbreaking.

I've actually not read A Stitch in Time, but it sounds amazing. I will definitely have to add that to my reading list. Thanks for the recommendation! Just when you think Bashir is over Jadzia, there's a scene where Quark uses it against him to win at Tongo and it's really quite heartbreaking. Hmm... I'm drawing a blank with this episode. What was it called? Poor Julian, and of course Quark would use it to his advantage. Speaking of Quark, I think this is a hilarious clip from the Season 4 episode The Quickening. Worf's reaction is too funny for words! ~Shaliza

I've just watched two series and I can't remember which episode it was!
I finished by re-watching Trial's and Tribblations which I love, it was done so well.

I'm a HUGE Star Trek: DS9 fan! I've rewatched the entire show at least twice, and I've written god knows how many fanfics involving the characters I'm crazy about it. That station is like home to me Julian Bashir is basically me, except he's prettier. Seriously, we have the same personality, the same flaws, we're both Arab... I very strongly identify with him, and loving him helped me love myself (as silly as that sounds, it's actually true). So yeah, Julian is very important to me. I'm also a Garak fangirl His character is amazing; that mixture of charming and threatening is simply too delicious to be ignored. As you can imagine, I'm a Garak/Bashir shipper. THEY ARE MADE FOR EACH OTHER! I love every single character on this show, and I have the biggest crush on Ezri Dax I kinda ship Jadzia/Kira, but I also like Worf/Jadzia. Kassidy Yates is such an under-rated character, I feel like she's the ultimate badass! And of course Captain Sisko is perfect.

Aww... nice to see another DS9 and Star Trek fan here, thesadchicken! And yay for another Julian Bashir fan! That's awesome that one of your favorite characters inspired you so much. I know he inspired me a lot too, during medical school and beyond. I used to have a life-size cardboard cut-out of Dr. Bashir holding a medical tri-corder in my room all through college and med. school. It was great inspiration and made me smile even when I was super stressed out. As for ships, when it comes to fan fiction, anything goes, so I can certainly understand the appeal of Bashir/Garak. BTW, was it ever mentioned in DS9 which country Dr. Bashir or his parents were from? I have patients with the last name Beshir who are from Turkey, so I wonder if Julian was too. Either way, what a cutie! I need to get the DVDs and start watching them again, because I can't remember a lot of it, since it's been so long since I watched an episode. On a separate note, do you like Star Trek: Voyager too? Because that's another of my obsessions, and there's a thread for that too: allkindsofeverything.boards.net/thread/148/star-trek-voyagerHope to see you there!

I guess this could have gone into the Hall of Fame, but since it relates to Star Trek and Terry Farrell, I figured it was a good way to revive this thread. Terry Farrell married Adam Nimoy, the son of the late Leonard Nimoy, in March 2018: LINKMay the happy couple live long and prosper! On a side note, I believe this is the third guy that Terry dated, who had ties to the Star Trek franchise. I remember reading elsewhere that she dated both Brent Spiner (Data) and Michael Dorn (Worf) in the past. Terry Farrell will always have a very special place in my heart for bringing the lovely Jadzia Dax to life. I got to meet her at a Star Trek convention too, once, and she was very sweet and gracious. I still have the photograph she autographed for me. LouiseX , sockies1 , magicmuggle01 , eowyn77 , nerdherder51

I like DS9 and Voyager. My favorite was the episode Trials and tribbles. They blended the old Star trek show with DS9! What fun to watch.

When DS9 first came on television I was at first a bit unsure about whether or not this would be a worthy addition to the Star Trek Genre. At first I thought it was to slow and not a lot happening (I suppose where the original was concerned, I expected a lot of action). There were episodes that weren't up to much and episodes that were good. It wasn't until the war with the Dominion started to really heat up that it really started to really get gripping. thesadchicken Shaliza. The name Bashir is Arabic and means The One Who Brings Good News. There are also several related names. Beshir, Abshir, Basheerah and Absheerah. There are also Villages in Iran, Iraq and Libya called Bashir. I couldn't find a country of origin. I always thought he was of Indian Origin. Shaliza. What did your fellow medical students think of your Julian Bashir cardboard cutout?

Thanks for the interesting info, magicmuggle01! For some reason I always thought that Dr. Bashir was Turkish. Maybe because I had some Turkish patients with a similar name. As for my Dr. Bashir cardboard cutout figure, lots of my med school friends were Star Trek fans as well, so they thought it was pretty cool. Sigh... I miss Deep Space Nine. Will need to go back and watch the episodes again.
