Ok... so I admit that I am a huge science nerd and a Trekkie! Naturally, I loved watching all the Trek series, but Voyager is undoubtably my favorite. There is something just very appealing about Mama Janeway's motley crew of Starfleet stalwarts and Marquis misfits being stuck in the Delta Quadrant and trying to find their way home. Add in a bunch of never-before-seen aliens, the Borg, and lots of drama involving the merging of Marquis and Starfleet crews... and VOILA! You've got yourself an extremely entertaining space opera! Not to mention that this show is definitely responsible for getting me hooked on fan fiction in the first place. So yeah... where Voyager is concerned, resistance was futile, indeed! I just adore this show and my DVDs bear witness of wear and tear thanks to overuse... ahem... The cast was just amazing, and this is definitely my favorite ensemble show when it comes to science fiction. My favorite characters are the holographic doctor played brilliantly by Robert Picardo, Lieutenant Tom Paris (Robert Duncan McNeill) and Lieutenant B'Elanna Torres. I love the Paris/Torres relationship too, which IMHO is the *ONLY* relationship that Trek writers got right, from start to finish. This couple is definitely still one of my OTPs! So... who here loves Voyager? This is the place to post and have fun! ~Shaliza

Count me in! Paris/Torres are a phenomenal couple, but the chemistry between Janeway and Chakotay always appealed to me. I'm hugely sentimental, and I adore that theirs is a courtly love. It's such an old concept that it's fresh and even a little disconcerting - a man and woman love each other in ways that aren't romantic but that are just as powerful. The Odyssey archetype that the writers played with (especially in the first few seasons of the series) was a lot of fun, too. Hmm...I'm having a hankering to watch the series again.

Voyager was my first science fiction love and the first DVD set I owned. I am a Paris/Torres fan and a Janeway/Chakotay fan. I never get tired of watching the series over and over!

I've been a Trekkie since I was little and Voyager was most definitely a favourite, I couldn't wait for the next episode and I read all the books while the series was running.
Incidentally, I didn't much like the books after they returned and gave up reading them but the first one did something I loved, it had Chakotay turn round to Seven and say it's not going to work and had him go looking for Janeway! I got the impression the actors weren't keen on the pairing but it worked so much better!
Tom and Belanna are great together.

I'm a relatively new Trekkie, I have to say (only 2 years, but now that I've fallen in love with ST, I'm not leaving!). And while I'll always think DS9 was the best written show of the franchise, Voyager will always be my favorite Trek. Give me a ragtag crew in space 70,000 light years from home and I'm sold! And Voyager gave my favorite character of all time: B'Elanna Torres. I may sound tumblr-ish by saying this but she is my baby and must be protected at all costs (although she would have none of it and punch me in the face). I just love her so freaking much. And Tom. I just love how much he grows during the course of the show. And I really love his relationship with B'Elanna - the fact that it's flawed and that sometimes they have doubts, and that it's not easy. That relationships take work. Anyway, I could talk about these two for hours. And Janeway. My Captain, always and forever. And the Doc. Seriously how can people not love him. And... I could ramble about everyone but I'm going to stop. I'm currently on a rewatch, so I'm a very happy fan right now.

I agree with you, I can talk for as long as you want about Voyager.
I didn't like where they took DS9 with the war, I don't deny the strength of the writing but it didn't feel like Trek to me after a while, and you don't want to start me off on Enterprise or the 'reboots' ;o)

Nice to see other Voyager fans here! I can talk about Voyager for hours on end too. And I will never tire of watching the DVDs. I never read the novels, but if Chakotay breaks things off with Seven and goes looking for Janeway, I might actually read that book. This will forever be the relationship that never took off in canon, sadly. I was very disappointed with the series finale, but watching the other seasons and episodes always puts me back in a good mood. The holodoc is one of the most versatile characters ever, and I LOVED how Robert Picardo just nailed this role over seven seasons. I thoroughly enjoyed the way he would deliver all his lines with that acerbic wit, which I would look forward to, with each episode. The Paris/Torres relationship was awesome, and two of my favorite episodes featuring them are Blood Fever and Scientific Method. The latter is one of my favorite ensemble episodes, ever! I love the way the doc does some first rate sleuthing while employing Seven's ocular implant; Janeway almost goes to the bridge in only a bed sheet wrapped around her, and Tuvok has me reeling with the line: "Should I flog them as well?" Talk about one thoroughly entertaining hour of television! I could go on forever about how much I love this series, and how much I miss it, but I'll save that for another post and let someone else take a whack at it. ~Shaliza

I liked all of the earlier books but other than the Janeway/Chakotay thing, I wasn't keen on that one. I would recommend the two Jeri Taylor wrote about their back stories, Mosaic especially. A friend of mine recently had a desire to watch Voyager so I'm going through them again with her. We live in different countries but we IM on google and watch them together. So far we're up to Twisted

^I had forgotten that I actually did read Jeri Taylor's Mosaic and Pathways many eons ago. They were both amazing reads. I also liked the novelization of the episode Day of Honor. It was nicely written and the unresolved sexual tension between Paris and Torres was brilliantly portrayed. I definitely recommend it to any ST: VOY fan. That's cool that you and your friend watch Voyager together while on IM. Awesome! If she has similar interests to what is on the boards, feel free to invite her to join our intrepid crew. It will be nice to have another Voyager fan here! I am currently up to season five on my Voyager re-watch. I think the last episode I watched was Think Tank. It was cool to see Jason Alexander as a telepathic alien. He's a very versatile actor. What are some of your favorite Voyager episodes? ~Shaliza

I remember liking the Day of Honor novelization too Favourite episodes... that's really hard. I like ones that either have a strong storyline or a lot of humour (or both)

Yeah, the humorous Voyager episodes are some of my favorites too. I especially like Scientific Method, Someone To Watch Over Me and The Bride of Chaotica. I also like Tinker, Tenor, Doctor, Spy, which is probably my favorite holodoc episode to date. In addition, I have a major soft spot for P/T heavy episodes like Day of Honor, Vis A Vis and Drive. Oh and who can forget witty and action filled episodes like Message in a Bottle? I especially loved the way this episode featured Voyager's holodoc and the newer version played by Andy Dick. I thought it was an exceptionally well-written episode. Man... I can go on about Voyager for like ever, but I'll stop here for now, and let someone else take a whack at it.
So... who's next?

OOH. Bride of Chaotica.. HAHAHAHA! That was awesome!
I've always liked Voyager, despite some of my trek friends. I try watching it with their eye, but still not real sure why they're so against it. There aren't many characters I don't like, though there are some I wish would have had more development. Love Janeway - she's a great mix of Kirk and Picard, in my opinion. I've always liked Tuvok, but I think, as I'm watching it again, I really like him/his character. Love Tom...how can you not? Doc is cool. Chakotay wasn't bad, wished for more though from him. Now that I think of it, maybe the only character that really drives me crazy is Harry. *shrug*

^ Yeah, Harry never really got over being the wet-behind-the-ears ensign thanks to people like Brannon Braga who insisted on writing him that way. I liked him as a character though, and got to meet Garrett Wang at a Trek convention, and that was like the highlight of the whole experience for me. He was friendly, witty and very gracious to his fans. ~Shaliza

That's cool that you got to meet him. It's cool that he was that nice. I hate hearing things about actors being "jerks" etc. I've not met any of the cast... Robert Picardo was even in town recently, performing at a local community college. Oh well... What's your favorite episode? I ask that, knowing full well that I'm not sure what mine is. HA! I'll have to sit down and think about it...

Heh... it's hard to narrow down my favorite episode to just one. If I had to choose though, I would go with Scientific Method. I like that it was heavy on the P/T relationship, while also being an awesome ensemble show. And yeah, Robert Picardo is just awesome. I loved him as the holodoc on Voyager; he just nailed the role, and I can't ever see anyone replacing him. His singing is awesome too. I remember hearing him sing "I Sold My Soul to the Voyager Show" at a Trek convention, and he was hilarious and just overall terrific! ~Shaliza
