I recently saw The Last Unicorn. It was touching, though I think the second half of the movie is significantly better than the first. I thought it was a little strange in the beginning to have the unicorn learn from hunters she's the last of her kind, yet the hunters don't actually play a role in the story and are not the reason for the unicorns' disappearance.
I agree the love story is bittersweet, I also thought it was a bit sad the Unicorn in the end learns regret, so she is now not feeling like a true unicorn, but isn't human either.
