The only British mystery show that I used to watch as a kid was based on the Adventure Series books by my favorite childhood author, Enid Blyton. I enjoyed it very much and would like the series on DVD one day. Keecha1996 , magicmuggle01 , LouiseX , ellyfant , kyngzindeyen , @catsmother

I've never really got into them, and I don't have Britbox yet, but maybe I should give it a try at some point . Any you'd recommend, Beckea?

I love British mysteries as well. I love it most when the detective is odd and underestimated. I always like Agatha Christie stories. My favorite being Miss Marple. I've watched them all from the black and white movies up to the last series they did in the 2000s. How can you not love an old lady who likes to knit, solving mysteries the police can't. I've watched Rosemary and Thyme, which wasn't my favorite detective series but watchable. Love Sherlock. It's no doubt my favorite British detective series even if I prefer Victorian times. It was fun seeing what he might be like in a more modern setting. Right now I'm watching through Father Brown. It's delightfully quirky and some episodes have been very good. It creates interesting dilemmas when he helps to solve crimes, and yet, is bound by the seal of the confessional. One thing they forget in favor of the the drama is a priest can call and tell the police when someone is in danger if the person confessing tells of a future crime they intend to commit and will not seek absolution, which the show doesn't seem to know (though I haven't yet watched them all). My one complaint is that they've used a time like the 1950s and taken a Catholic priest and infused 21st century ideas and morals. I would rather it have been more true to the period and religion. Father Brown would have been excommunicated many times over for some of the positions he takes lol. Some episodes are also a little racier than I would like and I end up skipping or fast fowarding, but overall, I enjoy the show, especially the earlier seasons.

I love gardening so Rosemary and Thyme was not a favorite but like you I watched it and after a few episodes I was hooked.
